Tell us what you think about :
- allowing swimming in the lake
- letting people use non-powered water craft on the lake
- the long-term proposal to convert the caretakers cottage into a cafe
- continuing the current ban on dogs in the reserve area
- how you currently use the Gosling Creek reserve, or what you'd like to do there.
LCover 6 years agoInclude facilities for families with dogs
Orange’s attitude to dog owner is absolutely archaic and an embarrassment. Council should consider the inclusion of both on and off leash areas with water access for use by families with dogs, which is common in other areas of NSW and Australia. If not here than at Mt Conoblas. Surely with some sensible restrictions; designated areas, allocated times allowed, dog waste disposal bins etc this would easily be possible.
0MadManlyFanover 6 years agoThis is the only place near town where people can go fishing. I think that the fishing concerns should be a higher priority.
The draft plan seems to rate bicycles (1) higher than fishing activities for this reserve (3). There are many hundreds of kilometres of roads and tracks that bikes can use, yet bicycles rate higher than anything else again, even when there is no where else to go fishing. Orange has the opportunity to capitalise on this area becoming a trophy fish area drawing many people here, yet the focus seems to be on bikes. Part of the lake (one side) should be filled with fish habitat (natural or artificial) and marked off with bouys. This would alert swimmers of underwater hazards and still let kyakers and others easily enter the area. This is our only opportunity to do something close to town for those who like to fish. Fishing is one of the largest sports in the world but seems to be constantly overlooked.
0Nellacandoover 6 years agoGreat facility - thank you
Better signage to explain to reserve users about bird habitat/breeding and the reasons why dogs are not permitted in the reserve (part of a wider precinct that includes Bloomfield and Gosling has different attributes etc) and/or better signage on alternate route if you're doing the 6km loop from Jack Brabham Oval with your dog, and then discover you can't enter Gosling Creek - where to/direction? Perhaps the "parallel track" adjacent to Bloomfield Road could be for dog walkers? Access to drinking water is important as recreation use increases. Consider all weather surfaces for boardwalk at western end and the bridge under Forest Road, they can be slippery with frosts and dew. Encourage involvement of park users in working bees to remove weeds and maintain native vegetation and unsealed tracks. Such a fantastic reserve and facility. Keep it up.
0Sallymtover 6 years agoAllow dogs on a lead
I would love to see dogs allowed in the reserve on a lead. This would enable families with dogs to make the most of the facilities, and to teach their kids responsible dog ownership. As seen at Lake Canobolas, the majority of dog owners are sensible, abide by the rules, pick up after their dog and are more likely to use the facilities. In addition, dogs would then be able to be brought to Orange Parkrun - a huge community event every week. The majority of Parkruns in Australia are dog-friendly, and its always sad when visitors to Orange can’t bring their dog when they can at other Parkrun locations. If a total lift on the ban was out of the question, perhaps a time-based restriction, eg dogs allowed before 9am and after 4pm?
